Understand Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Cranio-Sacral Therapy is a subtle and gentle form of manual therapy helping to restore and regulate the normal function and flow (or pumping) of cerebrospinal fluid, a fluid which has an important role in keeping the brain and nervous system healthy.
A few of the benefits of Cranio-Sacral Therapy:
- Musculo-Skeletal pain & dysfunction
- Headaches
- TMJ (jaw joint) dysfunction
- Cranial nerve disturbances – sight, smell, taste, hearing, balance, speech, swallowing, digestion, facial expression & sensation
The skull is made up of different bones which have fine joints, that can become restricted from banging your head, having misaligned teeth, a broken nose, and various other reasons.
These joint restrictions can then impair the pumping of the cerebrospinal fluid, and place tension on the connective tissue surrounding the brain & nervous system. This can then contribute to other pains and problems throughout the body.
Peter also integrates cranial membrane work, along with endo-nasal (inside the nose) techniques to create mobility and space within the cranium, face, teeth and nose.
There are also a host of other hormonal symptoms that can be linked to dysfunction within the cranio-sacral system, as the pituitary gland that secretes hormones to the entire body, helps to maintain its normal functioning and balance (homeostasis). The pituitary gland sits on top of one of the key cranial bones (the sphenoid), and has been linked to various symptoms throughout the body when there is a disturbance within the cranial system, affecting the pituitary glands function.
